Schools promotion at Qatar WAT

The Qatar Athletics Super Grand Prix, a meeting on the IAAF World Athletics Tour 2007, which takes place at Qatar Sports Club, Doha, Qatar this coming Friday 11 May will include a special promotion for athletics in schools.
Students from nine schools from around Qatar have been training at Qatar Sports Club under the guidance of national coaches in readiness for this elite occasion. They will compete in 3 races: a 60 metres sprint for boys between the age group of 11 and 12, an 80 metres sprint for girls between the age group of 13 to 14, and an 8 x 100 metres relay for the girls.
The athletes have been selected by their PE teachers and are some of the best and most promising talents from the following schools:
Al Khor International, Qatar Academy, Park House English School,Qatar International School, Doha College, Gulf English School, Al Jazeera Academy, Dukhan English School, The Learning Centre.
The schools’ races will take over a 30 minute period which will precede the main international competitions of the senior Super Grand Prix event.
This youth event is organized by QAAF, the IAAF Member Federation, and is seen as a great opportunity to engage Qatari youth and promote sport at a grass roots level to ensure the future of sport and the health of Qatar’s youth.
The QAAF are hoping after the success of this year’s programme, to encourage and support more schools countrywide, by including many more educational establishments in this programme.
